The Unilever Conference

The day after The BIG eCommerce Conference I received an invitation to present a key-note on eCommerce at an internal Unilever conference.  I had to do a quick Google to remind myself of the Unilever brands, but these guys are huge – we’re talking about V05, Dove, Radox, lynx and more. The conference was specifically for the Unilever personal care brands and I was to address global brand managers from all over the world.

I only had 45 minutes and my purpose was to open up the afternoon discussions around eCommerce.  Unilever are not selling direct to their end consumer, so my eCommerce key-note focused more on eCommerce (to sell online): technology, strategy and models and not at all on the transactional aspect of eCommerce (listing products for sale and processing orders).

We discussed SMS marketing, QR code, subscription model, virtual shopping, group selling model, social commerce and more.  During my preparation I discovered lots of really interesting case studies that I shall be sharing over the new few weeks.

I left the Unilever team in in-depth discussion on what had been presented and I am looking forward to seeing whether any of my suggestions end up in up and coming Unilever campaigns.
