Soho IT offer IT support to companies, mainly in the media sector. The company wanted to stand out from the crowd, their existing website and branding is smart but blends in too much with other tech companies so we were asked to create a brand new look and feel, aspiring to something much more quirky, with the WOW factor! Senior Web Designer Christina was given the task of creating a friendly and approachable website whilst i created the illustrations to compliment her vision.
After some discussion we felt that a mascot would be a fun way to inject personality and character into the site. Working from the mockups Christina created I was able to create a mascot character for the site. Originally I created a hippo which was defying gravity by floating in the background holding a branded balloon. I felt this represented the company as striving to make the impossible possible.
The original mascot was just to give an idea of what we could do for the company and after some feedback I was able to create characters more catered to the clients taste. I have explored some of the ideas shown above. With the pelican I thought perhaps we could use him as a storage device having items in his mouth. The geek and the moose are to represent the stereotypical clever IT specialist. By keeping these two characters quite simple in their detail I was able to create a cooler, fun style of cartoon. Soho IT have asked us to develop the moose character so I will develop this character using the company colour palette.
The website design that we have been working on looks amazing and is currently waiting approval, so do check back soon for an update.
