Happy Easter, I do hope that the first quarter of this year has been as busy for you as it has been for us at b:web! We’re almost being run off our feet with request for website updates as well as winning some wonderful new projects to be announced on the blog very soon.
If you didn’t already know, Google has announced a large update to it’s algorithm that is due to take place this month. The information below has been taken directly from original Google Webmaster Central announcment.
” When it comes to search on mobile devices, users should get the most relevant and timely results, no matter if the information lives on mobile-friendly web pages or apps. As more people use mobile devices to access the internet, our algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns. In the past, we’ve made updates to ensure a site is configured properly and viewable on modern devices. We’ve made it easier for users to find mobile-friendly web pages and we’ve introduced App Indexing to surface useful content from apps…
…Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
Google is insisting that all websites provide a proper mobile solution in order to achieve decent ranking on search results. The reason is clear to me as most of our customers receive over 40% of their traffic from mobile devices. Google has been helpful and in the last few months has been pre-warning websites owners via Google Webmaster of any current errors for mobile users.
b:web have been offering mobile and responsive solutions to our clients for about 3 years now and most recently in the past 6/9 months or so all of our website have incuded mobile solutions. Building a mobile or responsive website easily doubles the amount of work for us in: design, development and testing for bespoke projects and this has affected not only our costs but our time-scales. We have expanded the team to cope with the additional work and our prices have had to be increased to reflect the complexity of planning solutions for all devices.
Web standards and technology is marching on at an incredible pace with no signs currently of stagnation. If you rely on our website for lead generation and sales then it stands to reason that you need to keep up with the pace. I’m urging you to stay on the right side of Google and to ensure that your website does not fail the pending mobile test.
I am personally offering all of our previous and existing customers a complimentary website review, if you have not yet been in touch to discuss your mobile strategy please do so today, email me on email@example.com for a personal reply.
