Small Organisation Website

Boscastle School.

Web Design, Web Development

The Brief.

Boscastle is a community primary school situated in the harbour village of Boscastle – a fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall.

They were looking looking for a company to partner with who could create them an extensive website to provide school parents all of the information necessary to keep them up to date with the school staff, activities, results and curriculum. Boscastle came to b:web after seeing the Carbeile Junior School website that we produced and being recommended by them. They were looking for a similar website, but smaller and simpler.

The new site would need an extensive menu with multiple submenus that would allow the visitor to navigate through the large volume of information available. It was also vital that staff could easily edit pages in order to keep everything up to date.

The Solution.

Web Design, Web Development
The only branding that the client could provide was a photo of the school logo on a jumper, so we had to first redraw that in order to produce a usable website logo. Once the basic website design was presented to them, they arranged for a photographer who took several lovely photos around the school which really helped to personalise and enhance the site.

The website itself drew a lot from the Carbeile site which the client really liked, but we redesigned several of the key pages as well as the menu in order to make it easier to navigate Boscastle’s specific content. The result is a deceptively simple-looking site that manages to convey a large amount of information in small, easy-to-read sections.

It was built in WordPress and designed to work just as well on mobile as it does on desktop. There are several dozen pages on the site and those are being added to and edited all the time by the school staff.
